The company’s 33rd season begins in October with the New York premiere of the new musical “The Blue Flower,” written by Jim Bauer and Ruth Bauer and directed by Will Pomerantz. The show, which was produced at the American Repertory Theater in Boston last year, uses video, dance and music to tell the story of four friends living through the Belle Époque and World War I.
The Blue Flower won the 2011 Elliot Norton Award for Best Musical and Outanding Design. Combine that with the production's 6 IRNE Awards including Best Musical and it's swept both of Boston's top prizes for outstanding theatre
The Blue Flower took home a host of honors at the 2011 Independent Reviewers of New England Awards, presented April 25 in Boston. Wins include Best Musical, Best Actor (Dan Jenkins), Best Supporting Actress (Meghan McGeary), Best Musical Director(Mark Rubenstein), Best Lighting Design, and Best Sound Design.

"Wicked" composer Stephen Schwartz has signed on as a commercial producer attached to "The Blue Flower," the multimedia tuner gearing up for a run at Boston's American Repertory Theater later this year. "Blue Flower" is the first legit producing gig for Schwartz, whose 1970 tuner "Godspell" will be revived on Broadway next year.
Stephen Schwartz, composer and lyricist of such Broadway classics as Wicked, Pippin, and Godspell makes his theatrical producing debut with Jim and Ruth Bauer’s The Blue Flower, calling the production, “one of the most creative and original pieces of musical theatre that I’ve ever encountered in my life.”

Broadway's Matt Doyle (Spring Awakening, Bye Bye Birdie) and Celina Carvajal (Toxic Avenger, MTV's Legally Blonde) will play the roles of John and Tierney in this new darkly comedic love story.
